This is something I made up; actually it was questions I wanted to ask honored Fräulein Landgrebe so I could get to know her better, but I couldn't seem to stop once I got started.

Now it's your turn. Copy the questions and paste them into your journal. Oh, and answer the questions. My answers are
1. What is your favorite season of the year
Summer

2. What is your favorite gemstone?
Sapphire

3. If you could transform yourself at will into one animal, what animal would you be?
Some sort of large bird, such as a raven

4. Do you prefer sweet or savory dishes?
Savory

5.What is your favorite foreign dish?
Ropa Vieja--shredded beef cooked with onions and bell peppers and spices

6.What is your favorite dish from your homeland?
It's hard to say. American cuisine is not well-defined. I like Southern cooking: greens and blackeye peas cooked with ham, biscuits with sour cream gravy.

7. What was your favorite dish in childhood?
Ropa Vieja

8. What foods do you dislike so much that you are unable to eat them?
I don't know of any. I wouldn't eat scorpions or grubs, I suppose.

9.Do you ride a bicycle?
Very badly. Do I LOOK Dutch?

10. At what age did you learn to ride?
8

11. Do you like plush animals?
No

12. Did you stop liking them after childhood? If so, at

what age?
12

13, Do you have plush animals as an adult?
No

14. At what age did you receive the first "adult" gift (i.e. perfume or item that was slightly too old for you) that you liked in spite of it not being a toy?
13. My aunt gave me a green leather clutch purse that I loved madly.

15. Do you still have it, or a remnant of it?
Yes

16. How old were you when you stopped playing with dolls?
13

17. What is your earliest memory?
Having my diaper changed by my grandmother

18. What is currently in your purse?
2 emery boards
2 lipsticks
1 lip balm
2 compacts
2 bottles of nail polish
1 #2 pencil
1 fountain pen
1 mechanical pencil with extra erasers
wallet: money, credit cards, driver's license, postage stamps
1 weekly bus pass from Budapest last October
Datebook
Eyebrow pencil
iPod Shuffle
Hand lotion
Pack of toothpicks
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Small Plastic bag
Keys
Badge for work
Monthly MUNI pass

19. What is currently in your purse that definitely does not belong there?
It all belongs there. I could fit even more things in, too

20. What was your first favorite kinnie?
Wizard of Oz

21. What is your current favorite kinnie?
I can't think of one

22. If you could have a famous oil painting, which one would it be?
Something by Carravagio, perhaps. But I am not a very great fan of oil paintings. I would prefer to have some of Georges Seurat's drawings

23. If you could have an oil painting made, what would be the subject and the style of the painting?
"Aristasians Dancing at the Marzipan" in the style of Tamara de Lempicka

24. Would it be a large or small painting?
Large

25. If a tie were required, what style of tie would you wear?
Four-in-hand

26. What are your two favorite colors, in order of preference?
Sky blue and pale yellow

27. What was your first favorite piece of music as a child?
The Lieutenant Kiji Suite

28. What is your current favorite piece of music?
Planxit autem David

29. What is your current second-favorite piece of music?
Bach cantata piano transcriptions--I forget the name of the one I like the best

30. What instrument do you wish you could play (that you currently cannot play)?
Piano

31. What piece of music to you envision yourself performing on this instrument?
I really ought to go look it up. But I am very lazy

32. If you had to be either blind or deaf, which would you choose?
Deaf

33. If you had the power to render yourself invisible, how would you use it?
That is hard to answer, since many of the activities that I associate with invisibility are really not very nice.

34. If you had the power to read minds, whose minds (of your current Aristasian acquaintances) would you like to read?
Oh, Miss Sushuri Madonna, OF COURSE!

35. If you were to make an avatar of the opposite sex, what would you name her and would she be like?
I would name her Helen. She would be like Adele, but more capable and less shy.

36. Is your current avatar different from your Physical self, mentally? How would you describe her if you were to meet her as a stranger in Physicalia?
Hm. We are actually very similar. I am quieter in person.

37. If you had $80,000,000 what would be the first 5 things you would do (you need not limit your list to 5)?
1. Take care of my father
2. Pay off my sister's house
3. Pay off my house
4. Hire and accountant and an attorney to watch over the money--and watch over each other, too
5. Buy places to live in Prague and Amsterdam. Also possibly Karlovy Vary.
6. Set up a charitable foundation
7. Take care of my friends

38. If you could build a sim in Virtualia that was an idealized copy of any city or town in Telluria, what city would it be?
Paris

39. If you could build a sim in Virtualia that was the copy of any city or town in Aristasia, what city would it be?
Ladyton

40. What is your most indespensible article of makeup? What is the second most indespensible article of makeup?
Eyebrow pencil (doubles as eyeliner)
Foundation
Lipstick (I know, that's three. But I coulnd't stop at two.)
behind the cut.

1. What is your favorite season of the year?

2. What is your favorite gemstone?

3. If you could transform yourself at will into one animal, what animal would you be?

4.
Important Day Poolside

Well! We have been doing some very important work lately, with the plans for the Lay College and Sororities and everything. Fortunately, honored Fräulein Landgrebe put together a conference room for us...in the pool at Little Aristasia!

Here are the honored brunettes:

Did you notice that neither is wearing her spectacles? Or monocle, in the case of Fräulein Landgrebe. Stunning, aren't they?

Here we are all floating in the pool toys - I mean conference chairs - that honored Sarachenya got for us. Miss Sushuri appears to be eating a pose ball while the rest of us look at the water:

And here, we are just looking into the water. No doubt we are hunting for something else to feed poor Miss Sushuri since she clearly has finished the last of the pose balls:

And what would a day in Virtualia be like without a dance? Honored and thoughtful Miss Yatsenko brought dance balls so that we could waltz and, of course, do the traditional poolside tanko. Here I am, a-dancing with Elder Sister (still monocle-less):

Oh...I feel so happy! I just gained a Family, complete with a lovely Elder Sister: the famous Fräulein Landgrebe, who had taken the opportunity earlier to sort-of threaten to impose early morning cold showers on her Younger Sisters. Then she kindly decided not to do it. Which is rather happy-making, too, isn't it?

For a real and coherent description of the day, including the Feast of the Epiphany which we also celebrated, go http://sushurichan.livejournal.com/

Oh, and don't y'all think this picture looks JUST LIKE Miss Sushuri?

And doesn't this one look like Fräulein Landgrebe?

Oh, and before I forget: Art Neo Chairs

Walkies and Talkies

Well, firstly--since I have no coherent report of the meeting last night: like honored Miss Sushuri, I comfortably trust that there is a complete and proper report of it somewhere--I would like to post a photo of the snowy egret I saw at the park this morning. It's not as if they are really rare any more, but it is rare to see them up at the little lake where I take the dog for walkies.

Now, my dog is a smallish terrier of mixed extraction (oh, there's Cairn and Schnauser in there somewhere, we are almost sure) but for some reason, people don't recognize it as a dog at all upon first meeting.

Some of the guesses as to its species:
1. Mountain lion (Please. Mountain lion? The dog weighs 18 pounds.)
2. Porcupine
3. "Some sort of cat"
4. Raccoon
5. Amoeba (my wife)
6. Trumpeter swan (me)

Anyway, I take the dog out twice a day for walkies, or runsies as the case may be. Here is a picture of the startling view I had today during our exercise:

And, although there is no official report of the minutes of the first meeting of the White Rose Family, here is another photo of us (sitting very prettily, I thought):

Not a single slumper among us.

And here is a photo of radiantly beautiful Fräulein Landgrebe, newly elevated to Elder Sister status to our delight and joy:

Isn't her frock a marvelous example of Vintesse Art Neo, with its shining rays?

Like Miss Sushuri, I have resisted buying a skin for my avatar, but my reason was that (having resisted going to the stores that sell skins because they are SO Pittish and they make one look at naked pettes when one really doesn't want to--I mean not when you're SHOPPING. PLEASE.) (Of course, looking at naked pettes can be very nice, if they are arranged artistically and elegantly, and if one is in the mood to look at them.) I thought that it would erase the very features that make my face look like Adele: the arching brows, aquiline nose and rosy cheeks.

Well, to some extent they have modified the features, but they have defined them in a very charming and wholesome way--not at all coarse or Pittish. And my nose and brows are still the same.

Here is a photo I took yesterday (I was admiring little Miss Sushuri, but caught an incidental view of my own small self):

I returned home after a week away, so naturally instead of dealing with the accumulated bills and mail, I logged into Virtualia and went shopping!

The usual shops there may display wares that are garish, Pittish and unsuitable, but this shop at Kyung 32, 150, 69 ("1-800-Betties 1930's") did not seem to offer anything nasty. However, I could not rez the whole store, so blondes may not want to venture there unaccompanied. Just in case.

I did get a very pleasant surprise: Brunette shoes! These appear to be sensible Oxford pumps and tango sandals. I would have posted photos of these in "The Directory" of the Blue Camellia Club, along with real stockings and 1950s foundation garments, if I had known how.

Here is what I found:

Berry Hunting

I went berry picking yesterday, along the old train tracks where the blackberry bushes grow wild. I told Miss Sushuri about it, bragging that I had picked almost two quarts of berries, of which one quart arrived home. I had been disgustingly greedy and have the juice stains to show for it.

Miss Sushuri worried that they actually might be the deadly chortlewhortleberries that grow so rampantly these days, disguising themselves as edible blackberries. At least I think that was what she called them. But we established, after some discussion, that whortlechortleberries are not completely deadly--only a little bit deadly. Also, I am quite sure I ate an ant or two while snacking,* and everyone knows ants are the ant-idote specific to the fatal-ish toxins in these evil berries.

I had vague theories about formic acid and so on, but it is probably the word “ant” itself that is protective, don’t you think? I wonder what puns Chinese or Czech blondes use when they are picking poisonous fruit disguised as blackberries.

*”Snacking” is such a demure little word for the swinish display I put on. Did you know berry juice can stain your hair?

How I Am Spending my Time

So, li brunette bought a new pen-mouse for my drawing pad whose poor late pen-mouse had gotten broken somehow or other when the maid was cleaning. But now the drawing pad doesn’t work, because we have a whole new ordinator since the last time I used it, years ago, and we can’t find the old software to reinstall the thing. Phh.

Well, I was considering buying a whole new drawy-thing anyway, but brunette frugality forbade it—we first must waste $45.00 on the replacement pen, and now she wants to try to buy more software and reinstall the whole shebang. That, with shipping and so on, will bring it up to the cost of a whole new pad. Not really, but almost. I can pout the littlest bit about it, can’t I?

The reason for all this is that, since beginning my modiste career in Virtualia, I have progressed beyond regular mouse capabilities and my hand cramps up after I have been cobbling together textures for an hour or so. I do have some really splendid Persian lamb now, and some excellent tweeds, so I need to learn to use the templates to do more detailed work. I promised Miss Elytis that I would make her some pretty tweed suits, and if I can tempt her with the finished items she may be inclined to spend more time in Virtualia. We miss her loveliness so, so much.

Also, Lt. Gregoire left me the vending machine with all the instructions clearly and carefully written out, so that I may stuff the vendor full of my new frocks and thus continue to generate income for the Embassy and so on. But -- and this is so embarrassing -- I can’t figure it out and need a few million hours to puzzle on it and somehow not be tempted to wander off instead to work on that gown I’m making from that new exquisitely rich brown satin instead (I am searching for a pleated cream lace inset for the front of the bodice. It will be delicious.). I get so distracted by the pretties.

In Response to Miss Juliana's Indulgence

Dear Miss Juliana,

Thank you for your very kind response http://community.livejournal.com/aristasians/604.html to my capricious demands. I reread my post and am a little ashamed that I sounded so petulant. But not very ashamed; not enough to "take it back," as they say.

While it is extremely gratifying to be showered with compliments and attention--I can think of few things as gratifying as attention and compliments, and, really, you are very generous with both--my curiosity, like the Elephant child's, remains 'satiable as ever.

But now you dust off your hands, say to yourself, "Well, that's out of the way," and you vault back onto your white steed and charge off to do other brunettish, checklisty things. Don't deny it. That's how it always is with brunettes; just when one is ready to settle down for a long cozy chat (with the multitudes of little details so beloved by the blonde heart) they suddenly have to get unfathomably practical.

So, are there other pettes in elektraspace as wonderfully qualified to tell of their growing involvement in Aristasian society, however gradual or intermittent the process may have been? I tend to think there are, given the literary abilities exhibited so far by...well, by all the the fabulous Moderatresses of http://www.bluecamellia.org/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=1, for example. And so many of them are blonde, hallelujah.

But, aside from "The Feminine Regime" with its regrettable "niche" emphasis on punishment--oh, we all understand why it was necessary--there are no books that describe a maid's fascinating ascent into Aristasian life. None that aren't couched in fiction, anyway. I yearn to hear the real stories! Or maybe fictional ones couched in reality. But you know what I mean: the details. Powdered, perfumed, softly and sweetly tumultuous, warm, girly details!

And not that sort of detail, either. I want the interesting sort of detail, the sort that tells of awakening to, and then overcoming, the adversities of living in the blank grave of the Pit, and the flowering of one's true self in Aristasia, of those enormous momentous, invisible internal challenges and adventures one must face.

Could someone please write about all of that? Thanks.

I'll just sit here quietly and wait for it.

Telephone and be terrified again by Miss Alice Trent (not that she is terrifying if you have been good but - well, speaking to her before one knows what to do or say is terrifying for even the hardiest of brunettes)
5. Go to school
6. Mount white charger and rescue mushroom in distress
7. Become a full-time Aristasian."

Full quote http://www.bluecamellia.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=184

See? THIS, girls, is what the journals are for: the unfolding of true, real stories with all their attendant mystery, their everyday drama.

I, for one, am PERISHING to know more. What, for instance, happened at the end of that 7-year-long slumber? Was Miss Juliana awakened by a kiss? When the right sort of kiss has been judiciously administered, perhaps one may be inspired to set forth on one's greatest quest.

And what was terrifying about Miss Alice Trent? Was it something that she said? How I'd love to read all about that call! And how brave Miss Juliana must have been to take that fateful first step by calling her.

What was it like, going to school? What was distressing the poor mushroom, and how was the rescue accomplished?

But cruel Miss Juliana only teases us with joking little references. Phh. These brusque brunettes: what CAN one do about them?

Dear Diary,

Yesterday, I imported 7 gorgeous new textures and applied them to flat squares, which I hung on my wall rather like canvases. Very arty, I thought. I was proud of them. Within an hour all of them corrupted and turned black. Most exasperating.

I read somewhere, in one of the forums perhaps, that one may resize textures. But I don't remember where I read that and can't seem to retrace my steps. Should have written down the link when I read it, but it was just a passing reference to resizing, not instructions in resizing. Pity. But now I'm convinced that it's possible to resize textures in-game instead of re-importing them, cropping and saving at low...detail, or whatever it's called.

I threw the corrupt textures away and re-imported smaller versions of the same textures, and only four of those corrupted after a couple of hours. A refreshing change </sarcasm>.

These are very pretty fabric textures I photographed at a fabric store, and some of them are nice enough to own in Actualia (as opposed to Virtualia) for the purpose of my perennial patchwork projjy--I won't dignify it by calling it quilting, especially since the prospect of all that tedious quilting, with its stupid batting and so on, is very onerous after the exciting sparkly bohemian color and the highjinks of combining various exquisitely patterned fragments and then sewing the fabric pieces together (however crookedly). I am planning to stop there and just make a comforter cover with no need for boring old quiltification.

But back to the problem of biggish files being naughty and corrupt. Perhaps taking the original photographs from a greater distance would show more fabric, so when I inevitably have to crop the image, it would lose less pattern information, for my use anyway, in the process. In theory, anyway; a theory which I like because it suits my current level of knowledge on the subject. Also, it would require another trip to the fabric shop for the new photos, which would be fun.
